Description:
The SUU BZI Youth Engineering Academy (SUU BZI YEA) is a K12 outreach program organized within the SUU College of Engineering and Computational Sciences. SUU BZI YEA exposes kids from kindergarten to 12th grade to topics in engineering and computational sciences in a fun and engaging way. SUU BZI YEA breaks down gender, racial, and income barriers to let all students know they can pursue careers in engineering fields if they desire.
Teaching Assistants will help with lessons, hands-on activities, and other duties during the camp. Teaching Assistants will be assigned to specific age groups and classes during the camp. Depending on the week, these classes include:

K-2 camps: ScratchJr, Lego WeDo Robotics, ScratchJr/Theater

Grades 3-5: Scratch, VEX Robotics, Scratch/Theater

Grades 6-8: Web Development, Laser Cutting, 3D Printing, Cryptography

Grades 9-12: Python, Laser cutting, 3D Printing, Cryptography
SUU BZI YEA 2024 will run on the following schedule

One Day Staff Training between May 28-31
-
Classes: June 3 - June 21, 2024
-
Break: June 24 - July 5, 2024
-
Classes: July 8 - 26, 2024
Responsibilities
Monitor, supervise and mentor a group of approximately 25 students with the following specific duties:

Ensure the safety and appropriate behavior of program participants.

Assist with hands-on experiences, and lessons
-
Attend classes and laboratories with students, be engaged in learning class material and actively help students during class time. (Cell phone use is not permitted while interacting with students.)

Supervise lunch when assigned. Engage with students during lunch/activities.

Serve as a mentor to students, encouraging the development of a commitment to educational achievement.

Present lessons as needed.

Assist with drop off & pick up of students.
-
Attend all staff meetings.

Assist with planning, implementation, setting up and taking down of events.

Work as a team along with all SUU BZI YEA staff.

Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
-
Must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Must pass a background check.
-
Commitment to and interest in assisting students in their academic and personal growth.

Currently enrolled in college with a 2.5 or better GPA.
-
Ability to meet and interact with parents cordially and proficiently.

Ability to work with attention to detail, maturity, professional demeanor, tact, diplomacy, and a sense of humor.

Ability to use initiative, demonstrate dependability, and use time constructively
-
Prior experience working with children and/or adolescents (preferred).

Prior supervisor experience (preferred).
Skills:
